Life

Our Place to Grow & Share

“For everyone to whom much is given, from her much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of her they will ask the more.”

Good morning. How did you sleep? I slept hard. My fourth day of bleeding, my womb is shedding the burdens of my soul. God, I am so glad to be a woman. Yes, my emotions are heightened (and somewhat embarrassing) during this time. But emotions are signposts on this road called life.

And life is abundant. Today, I will spend languid hours in the kitchen. Chopping and stewing, preparing the food for my sister’s drive-by baby shower. If you know me, you know I’m not particularly fond of baby showers or even babies themselves. I mean they’re cute of course. I love a pudgy baby and their smell, the infinite span of the universe you see in their eyes. The delight when they gurgle and coo. But shitty diapers and spit-up and gut-wrenching cries in the middle of the night have stopped me from seeking the tribe of motherhood. I’ll take aunty and god mom. Thank you very much.

Today, Aunty Banks is very happy to be of service.

P.S. Today’s opening quote comes from Luke 12:48. In it, Jesus is explaining a story of a boss who left and returned to find some of her workers doing right and others chilling because they didn’t expect her so soon. The dumb workers weren’t punished as much. But the ones who knew better, who she expected more of, caught it the worst. Me, I’m not dumb. So God be expecting a lot. I can dig that.
P.P.S. Okay, time for our daily task! Take thirty minutes to completely zone out at a task. Maybe it’s laundry or organizing your workspace or staining some furniture or watching the car or writing some code. Whatever! Get into it.
