I’m feeling excellent. I’m executing to the highest level. I’m paying attention to every detail. I’m following up on everything. Whew, it feels so good.
Over ten years ago was when I first had this feeling. My bishop (God rest his soul) preached a series on excellence and set my soul on fire. I set out to be the best teacher I could. And man, was the reward great! My extended class (think homeroom on steroids) named themselves Bonk Block. And nigga! We ran the yard. Lol. I know the jail references are problematic, but they’re also a source of pride. What can I say? We wild niggas.
Today, I wish you excellence in every single thing you place your hands upon.
There’s a woman on this list who also taught me excellence and execution. My most gracious dean, Kaeisha. I’ll spare y’all the boring details, but if you’re familiar with Black sororities and fraternities, you already know. Kaeisha and my big sisters instilled lessons into me that I have carried into every room I enter.
